What do I need to do to add the scripts to blender to enable it to read .MS3D and .SMD files to allow for pose creation.
I have version 2.6.2 and have so far followed this tutorial...

I'll pass on this one, as I've never used Blender or Milkshape.
But aren't you a member of Mod The Sims, where they have nothing else better to do with their time than mesh and make pose scripts? Are you finding no luck getting help from them?
