RE: Fury
NEW CHAPTER!!
Chapter Twenty-Seven The old adage “time flies” rang very true at Six Gable Stables. Mike, Karilla and the rest of the gang couldn’t believe that it was already Autumn of 2013. Mike has been working for Jack as a stablehand for well over a year and it’s been over six months since Jason joined up with the group of friends. Today was like any other day for Mike, grooming and riding Jack’s horses like he normally does. He sees Jason in the corner of his eye, putting a saddle on his new best friend, Lightning. “I’m just taking Lightning out for a ride.” “Alright, man.” As Jason straddled his newest best friend, he couldn’t help but smile....He smiled for one reason, the reason why Jason is riding Lightning is because justice prevailed. He thought back to several weeks ago.....in the freezing-cold courtroom.....a chill went down his spine as the jury foreperson read the verdict...... “Has the jury reached a verdict?” “We have, your honor. State of Colorado vs. Vincent James Cormier Case No.158321. As to the charge of aggravated cruelty to animals, we the jury find the defendant, Vincent James Cormier guilty of all charges.” As Mike lead Fury out of the stable, he couldn’t help but gaze at Jason proudly straddling the pure white stallion....A thought crosses his mind... “Score one for the good guys!” Later in the day, Jack called the five friends into the dining room of his house for a short meeting about some news he received from the Crystal Falls Humane Society. “To make a long story short guys, I have been contracted to rehabilitate and train one of the horses that were rescued when Vincent Cormier’s riding school shut down. I have the horse’s pedigree on me if you want to look at it” After Jack put the paper on the ground, Karilla jumped at the opportunity to look at the pedigree of the rescued horse. “It says here that the horse’s name is ‘Blackie’ Ugh....’Blackie’?...I could probably come up with a name that’s a kajillion times better. Let’s see....thoroughbred mare.... She’s also six years old and has a black coat with white socks and a white blaze on her forehead....there is also a letter attached to her pedigree.... ‘Dear Mr. Jack Silver. You are this horse’s last chance. For the few weeks that we’ve had this mare, she is almost completely untamable. This mare has been to some of the best trainers in Colorado, but none of them were even able to get a saddle blanket on her before she goes ballistic. Sometimes, she gets so bad that we have to inject her with Ketamine. We’ve heard about how your stablehand Michael Schaefer was successfully able to tame the Arabian stallion that killed his owner. This is Blackie’s absolute last resort, if there is anyone that can tame her; it’s either you or your stablehands. Wow...so when is this horse coming?” “I’m hoping in the next few days. I suspect that you guys are going to help me out with this, correct?” (BEEP) (BEEP) (BEEP) The sudden beeping of a truck disturbs the brisk autumn morning. Mike and Karilla rush over to the driveway of the stables. “Mike! It looks like the rescued horse is here!” “Let’s take a look!” As it turns out, the couple’s instincts were correct. Just like fifteen months ago, a horse trailer bearing the words “Crystal Falls Animal Rescue: Equine Division” backed into the driveway, but Mike noticed something amiss. “Wait....all horse trailers are supposed to have windows, right? So the horse gets fresh air on the road?” “Yeah.....” “It’s weird....there aren’t any. Instead of windows, all I see is a few air holes....Let’s take a peek in!” “Not a good idea, Mike. You heard what Jack said, the horse is dangerous!” “If we just keep quiet, maybe she won’t notice....” Mike proceeded to peer into the tiny, porthole-shaped air vent of the horse trailer, he sees the beautiful black and white mare, being subdued by a double set of restraining straps on the halter. Suddenly, the black mare cocks her head and her dark eyes meet Mike’s eye! Almost instantaneously, the black mare lets out the most ear-piercing and absolutely terrifying neigh they have ever heard in their lives. The noise didn’t even resemble the neigh of a horse. It was loud, primal, and demonic, almost resembling the screech of a pterodactyl. The horrifying noise was resonated by the acoustics of the horse trailer, alerting everyone and everything around it. At that point, Mike could only think of one thing...... “Oh God....I think she noticed us.” Jack turned around to face Mike and Karilla. A true look of concern was in his eyes. “You two need to stand back! That horse is dangerous and completely unpredictable....I know you want to look at her, but it’s for your own safety.” Suddenly, the three of them hear the banging of iron horseshoes against a metal surface.... (BANG!) (BANG!) (BANG!) “Oh my God....get back, I think the horse is gonna..." (BOOM!) “ESCAPE!!” The mare breaks out of her containment and rears up on her hind legs. Both restraining straps on her halter literally ripped off with brute strength. Mike, Karilla and Jack are horrified to see the sheer amount of scars decorating her entire body. “Oh God....look at all of those injuries....poor girl was abused much worse than I imagined.....F*** Vincent Cormier, that’s all I really gotta say.” Jack proceeds to grab a hold of one of the restraining straps and attempts to calm the spooked mare down, but akin to how violently Fury acted when he was first brought to the stables, Jack is having trouble. “MIKE! I could use a little help here!” Despite being horiffically scarred and looking unkempt with her fur matted and her mane and tail in knots, Karilla was absolutely entranced with the strange beauty of the black mare. Just like with both Raven and Fury, she is sure that with proper training and a human master that treats her with lots of love, she will be another loyal and trusting steed. After what seemed to be hours wrangling the black mare, Mike and Jack managed to get her into Jack’s newly refurbished quarantine pen. There, she continued to thrash and buck tirelessly. “I really hope she’s not beyond help” Karilla chimes in. “I hope so too....” |
