Poor Bobert. Condemned for the rest of this year every time he gets a history class to associate it with leopard print lingerie. If you have to appeal your grade after your finals, I'm sure that will be taken as a mitigating circumstance!

I had no idea you celebrate Bonfire Night in New Zealand. Today in parts of Yorkshire like Leeds and Sheffield its Mischief Night, so that will keep the police there busy dealing with all the complaint calls. So far the local kids have been pretty quiet in letting off fireworks (last night being the first major night of it), but tomorrow will be ridiculous as ever.

I remember someone claiming all these festivals happening at once is because they're all really replacements for the old pagan festival of Samhain, which was a sort of last big party to cheer everyone up before the gloom of winter arrived.
