RE: The Official Nonsense Thread
That video has messed with my head seriously.

I will retaliate with a video of my new favourite creature of the moment, the Bustard (no, I have not misspelt it!)

They like to spend their days in tall grass, waiting for someone or something to come nearby. Once they do, they duck into cover & make a weird whistle noise, followed by a pop, so the hearer wastes the next hour looking around going "what the hell made that weird noise & is it poisonous?"

This is why it gets its name, because it is a complete & utter bustard.

Here is how it attracts a mate, making the sound of a train toilet flushing.

Biggrin That is one strange-sounding bird!

I can see why it might be a favourite. You've shown me yours so I'll show you mine. This is one of my favourite birds:

I mean look at him! His feet are blue and he's tap-dancing (at least in my mind he is).

Ten points to Ravenclaw if you can tell me his name!

Very interesting birds.

On another note my mouse has official stopped working. :/
We've spent around a year together and now it's time to get a new el cheapo mouse.

Edit: I got it working again. I just had to push slightly on the side of the usb where it looks like two puzzle pieces meet!
Thank you google! Big Grin

He's a Blue-footed Boobie Tongue They're a mad cousin of the gannets.

How about the lyrebird, which can imitate anything, right down to car alarms & chainsaw!

I see that's North Korea having a touch of the crazies. What a totally screwed up wee country that is. If you want a story that sums up all its madness in one neat tootie-fruitie package, here you go:

http://www.globalpost.com/dispatches/glo...orth-korea

A 14-year-old North Korean schoolgirl who drowned in a flash flood while saving portraits of late rulers Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il has been given a posthumous award.

Han Hyon-Gyong died on June 11 trying to keep the plastic-wrapped portraits above the surface of floodwaters that engulfed her home in Sinhung county in the eastern province of South Hamkyong.

Images of founding father Kim Il Sung and his son Jong Il are hung in homes, offices and public buildings across North Korea. They must be placed in the center of a wall that has no other adornments or pictures.

Any country where people are so indoctrinated & so afraid of the people in charge that pictures of "Dear Leader" come before personal safety is long overdue being toppled & those running it brought to book.

So ten points go to Minty! Yes Can't not love a bird called Blue-footed booby!

The lyrebird is great too: pretty name, great mimicking talent, fabulous wavy tail-feathers. Shame about his face!

North Korea = Dizzy-1

A few weeks ago I read an article about how North Korea had invited a small group of international scientists to visit in order to take a look at their landscape, which is pretty much destroyed. They realise they have an environmental disaster and lack the expertise to solve it themselves, so they invited experts in to take a look. All tech was confiscated at the airport and the visitors had to be escorted around and monitored at all times. They were not allowed to talk to people other than their official minders. That must have been one seriously strange visit. Apparently every few hours they would be taken to a statue of the dear leader and their hosts would produce bouquets of flowers and offerings for the scientists to lay at these shrines. Bonkers.

Ollie I'm glad you got your mouse working again. Yup, Google is your friend!

Enjoy, Bobert!

I haven't been to the theatre for ages. I tried to get tickets for a new version of Macbeth recently, but was too slow and they'd all sold out. Sad
