The Official Nonsense Thread

RE: The Official Nonsense Thread
Costa Rica out, Belgium out, I couldn't care less who wins the world cup now. The Brazil v Germany match will be like watching 2 people playing chess & the Argies v Holland will be the usual grudge match, with both as bad as each other for "gamesmanship".

At least the men's singles at Wimbledon was good, pity Federer never got one last Grand Slam title to overtake Pampers. I'd say he's good for another year on that performance though.

Yes I was very sorry about Costa Rica. Their goalie did so well during the match that it seemed so cruel to go out on penalties. But that is the way the World Cup cookie crumbles. Mmmmm, cookie. Mmmmm, crumble. (I sound like Homer Simpson!)

I don't really like watching tennis so I'm not that interested in Wimbledon tbh. I quite like watching mixed doubles. That's about it. It's been fun to watch the Tour de France go through Yorkshire, seeing as I've just been there. Today it's coming to London and I'm kind of glad I took an extra day off today so I don't have to experience any travel disruption. It's back to the grindstone tomorrow, though.

Right, let's do a bit of sims while the washing goes round and round in the machine.

Wow, well, Germany versus Brazil, otherwise known as Germany annihilating Brazil, was a little more action-packed than predicted! I could barely believe what I was seeing. I was trying to sew buttons onto a shirt at the time and kept detaching and re-affixing the same button again and again because I was so distracted! There were also several instances of me nearly sewing the shirt to my pyjamas due to inattention and a higher than normal number of needle-stuck-in-finger incidents. What a game! Brazil did not play well so did not deserve to win, but I did feel sorry for all the howling kids in the crowed. They must have been so excited to go to watch their national team in the world cup stadium - only to see them utterly destroyed within minutes. Awful. Still, it will be a learning experience for them won't it!

RE: The Official Nonsense Thread
Brazil were total crap this World Cup & were found out the last two games. Glad the Dutch came 3rd although Arjen Robben should have been the Dutch swimming hopes at the last Olympics with his expertise in diving & Van Persie was the worst captain of any side competing - solely interested in his own glorification than the team's advancement.

Everything crossed for this German side to become known as the Boys from Brazil who thrashed the Argies. No Malvinas and no World Cup, do da, do da! Biggrin

Two days in a row with it being cloudy yet the temperatures remaining at 74. I'm starting to get used to it, although I'm wandering everywhere with a bottle of water in my hand is perhaps a factor.

My brother plays an online football game in which you control a player in your team, but if insufficient numbers of people sign in to play for their team in a match then they are replaced by bots. It seemed very much as though the actual Brazil national team in the actual real World Cup had been replaced by bots!

I am looking forward to the final and do not care who wins as long as it's a good final match. Hearts did well yesterday, Liverpool ladies did OK and dear old Marine did not lose by a huge margin, so that's all good enough for me at the moment. Biggrin

Mostly, though, I am looking forward to sitting quietly on my sofa at home and not having to speak to people. I met up with some friends on Friday night, which was lovely because some live in the US of A and are therefore available very infrequently. We had a nice time catching up. But then yesterday I saw a different group of friends, including one with a badly behaved small child who shouted a lot and kept jumping around, and now I'm all done with socialising for the foreseeable future. I think I'm quite friendly but not really very fond of large social gatherings.

It's hot here as well and horribly humid, with occasional downpours. The "gardeners" came yesterday and completely destroyed the flowerbeds so I do not need to worry any further about watering the plants. In fact I will go and take a picture of their "work". It is difficult to believe that the residents actually pay for this service.

Edit: here we go. They were asked to mow the lawn and trim the bushes. TRIM THE BUSHES. Instead, they simply mowed down everything in the flowerbed. I think they used the strimmer because they absolutely love using that thing.

A day ago this flowerbed was full of leafy green bushes and pink and purple flowers. It looked really lovely. The only problem was that a few of the more mature bushes had become a little tall and were poking into the downstairs flat when she has her windows open. No big deal, they just needed a little light pruning. Instead:

Nothing left but twigs and a few fallen rose petals on the grass. I'm really sad about it. It's also lucky for them that they didn't strim their way through that brown electrical cable that has detached from the wall and fallen into the flowerbed (although that might have been a permanent way to get rid of that gardener).

Well, there we go. Another World Cup is finished. I found it highly amusing that Sepp Blatter was booed at the presentation of the cup.

Went to the NT last night to catch 'Great Britain', a play that was suddenly announced immediately following Mr Coulson being sentenced to jail time (and Rebekah Brookes not being thusly sentenced). Billie Piper was really good and totally fiendish in it. Clapping

Sounds great - I'm guessing Rupert Vansittart played someone incredibly pompous as he always does? Biggrin

Don't suppose you remember the comedy "Hot Metal" from C4 that used to be a staple for repeats, all about a former broadsheet forced to go tabloid to survive & all hell breaks loose (including breaking into Buckingham Palace & carefully puncturing all the condom packets with needles in order to run a "royal pregnancy" exclusive).

Years ago I read a book called "The Town With No Twin" which centred on a local newspaper trying to stay alive. It was mildly funny, good enough for a crowded train but a little predictable. It was written by one of the old Not The Nine O'Clock News writers & I'd expected so much more. His other two books got similar reviews of being portable loo roll, which explains why one of them is now being made into a BBC drama.

Why, yes! He was the Prime Minister. Biggrin

The funniest person in that play was the guy who played the totally clueless police commissioner. He was bloody hilarious in the way that only the truly incompetent can be. Except that when you stop laughing you remember that it's inspired by real life and that the world is a freaking crazy place filled with (and run by) inept loons.

Nope, I have never heard of "Hot Metal" but it sounds as though they should re-run it!

In other news, it is BAKING HOT here. I reckon even Ollie would admit that London is warm right now. It is supposed to break and turn to thunderstorms by the weekend, so that'll be ace if it really happens.
