I agree it's not "natural" in our world, but ... they are sims. Maybe to them it's quite natural 

I know for a long time, it was said that, in the real world, certain foods could help decide the gender of your child. Like, a lot of meat for boys, a lot of greens or fruits for girls. Granted, they've not been able to prove it one way or the other to this day. But my mom told me about it.
