Help! My Strangetown disappeared without any warning--why???

{cursing}When I opened my Sims 2 for Mac OS 10 yesterday to play, I discovered that one of the three neighborhoods it comes with, Strangetown, had disappeared completely and in its place was a graphic with the text "Create your own custom neighborhood here." I had not downloaded anything for this, and I was upset because I lost my Strangetown families. I tried searching all the folders for the game but could find nothing amiss. I did not want to re-install because uninstalling the old game would lose all my remaining families. Is the game programmed so that Strangetown disappears after being played with a certain number of times? After all, it is "Strangetown." (and there are aliens in it and maybe alien abductions? {yes}) If not: How do I get it back, and why did it disappear? Thanks,

P.S. The tech support at the Sims 2 website was no help at all--refused to even take the question and referred me here, so I am hoping someone had the same problem and solved it.

perhaps the game glitched and simply changed the pic?

i would try to see if it still goes to strange town

also do you have any game hacks or mods in the game?
or simPE

because those may screw up your game
