Race played a huge role into the outcome.
And Obama is mixed[He' mother's white,his father is black] not African American,and if you don't know the correct definition of an African American it's someone who was born in Africa and came to America.

I personally think race shouldn't be a factor in the elections.  They should just count on the person, and if they have good goals and such.
