Re: April Fools joke, or not?
I haven't heard about this at all.

I just read on MSNBC though that if you can access sites like microsoft.com or virus protection sites that you are not infected apparently.

Re: April Fools joke, or not?
It's apparently not a AFD joke, from what I've heard, it's been on the news a lot up here where I am in Canada.  {unsure}

Re: April Fools joke, or not?
Then how do they expect us to function without computers for the day?

Also, I read, if you still have automatic updates turned on, then chances are you are safe.

Re: April Fools joke, or not?
Right. Well, obviously the world's not going to shut down for the day. Most computers that are on ever day are going to continue to be on. So if it's not a joke, everyone's in deep trouble.

I just now realised that I haven't yet read the article Majick posted. Perhaps I shall do so now...

Re: April Fools joke, or not?
I suppose the best thing you can do is insure that automatic updates is still turned on. If it is, then you should be ok. If not, try doing some more research.

I know that I have checked all the computers in the house just to be sure and they all appear to be fine.

And I just thought about this, if it is set so all the computers that are infected will communicate with the "host" on April 1, won't the "host" overload and shut down? ???

Also, haven't we heard of these in the past?

Re: April Fools joke, or not?
Just did some research of my own, and turns out you were right about at least one thing. They say that if you can access virus protection system sites, such as this one, you don't have the virus. (The link is to McAfee...don't worry, I'm not trying to bomb your computer. XD)

As for the 'host', I would assume you're correct. Then again, technology's a powerful thing these days. I won't pretend like I know that much about it, but I know enough to guess that it's not very likely this'll turn out to be a major threat.
