family problem

okay i have this family and i'm trying to set it up where the grown up children of this family can move out where I would be able to play them and the original family and have them be aware of each other so if the moved out kids get married the parents will know, or if the moved out children's siblings grow up they will know. 

I tried moving them out and then switching the active household but they aren't aware of each other espically after the father died in the parents game and he was still there when I played the childrens.

with the sims 2 they were aware of each other - how do I get that with the sims 3

That sounds like a glitch,you can try again because I do the same thing and it works
