Maybe it's a setting... maybe someone set it to jump to the firts new post since I left, rather than the last post? Does that make sense?

Sorry, I just saw this after re-reading my original post to see if I sound like a moron. But I'm sorry? That WAS pretty harsh. I don't mean to bring it up again, but it caught my eye while re-reading.
