Because the ramps annoy the hell outta me, and I hate getting jumped by wild Pokemon every 3-5 steps x3

If I had enough money to buy max repels, it wouldn't be an issue. lol I would just deal with the ramps.

I just stocked up on tonnnnnnnnns of max repels and stayed off the bike.
Was lengthy but I got there in the end haha.

Well, you need the bike to get through the cave in some areas. I hate those darn ramps {glare} {cursing}

I used like around 40 Max Repels and rode my bike the whole time on D/P. I think I left in the middle of it though 'cuz one of my Pokemon died and I didn't have any revives. You can look up a guide on YouTube or a written one, here is a good video guide.
