Re: harry potter? - Cassie - 09-05-2008 06:56 PM Completly and utterly true. My life would always have HP, but every second counts for me. I'd have hated to be one of those people who only discovered HP at the last minute. I also find it really irratating when people get asked HP questions on quiz shows and they don't know the answer. I'm screaming at the screen! It's usually some obvious question like 'Who are Harry's best friends? Ron & Hermione, Draco & Pansy, Neville & Luna or Cody & Stacy?' Well, it's pretty obvious it isn't the last one... Re: harry potter? - bambigoddess - 09-05-2008 07:51 PM But, it is! At least, I thought so... ![]() Only joking. I hate that, too, by the way.
Re: harry potter? - dejadejavu - 09-05-2008 10:03 PM My friend claimed to be a HP fan. Then she told me that she only got into the books after she watched the movies. She also thinks the movies are not totally disgraceful to the books. This was the beginning of the end. Does it bother you if someone watched the movies first? Can you really be a true true fan? I guess if afterwards you realize that the books totally outshine the movies. But at the same time, HP is so much better if it just sneaks up on you. Like hmm, lets read this and then it turns out to be magical...literally. Re: harry potter? - bambigoddess - 09-05-2008 11:14 PM Can you be a true true fan after seeing the movies? Definitely not. At least, not in my eyes. Even if they do realise the books are better, it's still...not the same. They'll never be a true fan that way. My opinion, anyway. Silly me... {rolleyes} Re: harry potter? - dejadejavu - 10-05-2008 04:31 AM Good. Thats what I think too. Haha. I feel like a jerk/HP elitist when I say that but I just don't care anymore. It sucks though that true fanness can just be taken away from someone just because they happened to see the movie first. All well. Re: harry potter? - Cassie - 10-05-2008 10:57 AM Well, I don't know. Just because they have seen the movies first, I still don't think you should judge their love of HP on that. They were just.... not fortunate like we were. You'd be surprised how many obsessed fans only started HP after they watched some of the films. We are in the smaller majority, here, with the fact that we discovered HP books first. I always remember, before the films came out, I always used to read 'Hermione' as 'Heh-row-mine'. Jo apparently said lots of people had trouble with the name, that's why she added that conversation with Krum and Hermione in GoF. Although, I only blame my age for that. I would otherwise have been able to read it. Re: harry potter? - bambigoddess - 10-05-2008 12:18 PM Unfortunately, I can't say I ever pronounced 'Hermione' wrong. I really wish I could, though. ![]() But I see what you're saying about the movie thing. I sort of agree, but still, I think you can't be a true blue fan that way. You can be an obsessed fan, of course, but not a TRUE fan. In my mind, there's a difference.
Re: harry potter? - Cassie - 10-05-2008 12:22 PM I can see where you are coming from, and I think you are right, but I won't judge anyone as long as they love HP. It's all that matters.
Re: harry potter? - bambigoddess - 10-05-2008 12:23 PM Oh, I won't judge, either. It's just...in my head, that's how it is. I won't act any differently toward them, though.
Re: harry potter? - Cassie - 10-05-2008 01:21 PM Me either, that would be completely unfair. But finding teh books before the films is certainly something to be proud of.
