what about computer requirements? - sims2alwaysrocks - 24-03-2008 04:33 AM one of my friends said you would need the newest alienware computer [which costs over $5,000] to play the sims 3. does anyone know if that's true, or what system requirements will most likely be needed for the sims 3? i would be very upset if a new computer is needed, i just got a new computer this christmas, and my parents were mad enough i needed a new one after having a computer for only 2 years [it got overloaded with the sims 2...heh heh], there's no way i could get a new, expensive computer for it. Re: what about computer requirements? - Notre Dame - 24-03-2008 05:21 AM I don't think EA has released the system requirements yet for the Sims 3 but; on other forums I'm on, people have been speculating that the computers are going to have to be really good to play the Sims 3 on. Since you just got a computer, you might be able to get away with upgrading you video card or something to make it more able to play the newest Sims. Then again, right now this just speculation. I'm personally keeping my fingers crossed that the specs won't have to be too crazy to play the game. I guess we'll have to be patient till EA decides to give us that information. Re: what about computer requirements? - zenia77 - 24-03-2008 09:35 AM i would be so peed if they did that and there sales would go way down because of that most people cant afford a 5,000 computer a mac is high enough wow i hope it works for my computer i would cry if it didnt lol iam not kidding Re: what about computer requirements? - MaiaMadness - 24-03-2008 09:40 AM It depends of whether they'll make it directX10 or whether you'll be able to play it with a directX9 graphics card. Doesn't matter to me, I'm upgrading to Nvidia GeForce 8800, as soon as I find out if my firmware and motherboard supports it... Damn Apple for not having more info out there. EDIT: Also, the graphics card will be the only thing that might change; most CPUs are above 2Ghz now, anyway, you might need 2 gigs of ram and some extra space for it to run smoothly, but Microsoft has yet to make an OS that utilises the power of multi core CPUs anyway, so the only thing you might have to worry about is whether your graphics card supports directX10. Re: what about computer requirements? - Vigdis72 - 24-03-2008 11:12 AM They will loose to many buyers if they make the game so "big" that nearly everyone have to buy new computers. Re: what about computer requirements? - Guru62 - 24-03-2008 12:17 PM Sorry to be a killjoy people, but here is the reality of the computer world: An entry level computer these days is a dual core CPU with 2G ram. Sure, you can still get less powerful machines, but this is pretty much the new base line. Software makers are not going to spend a couple of years on developing a product that is a poor mans knockoff of an existing product. They are going to improve the product to make it play better and look better. To do this they will take advantage of the new hardware that is our there now. Pretty much every new version of a game has the requirements of more processing power. Half Life II required it, Flight Simulator to required it, plenty of others do it. The software makers are not concerned with what their fan base has now. They figure that if the product is good enough, people will upgrade, and if they lose some people because they can't, they'll gain new people who have just purchased a new system. The average life span of a PC these days is about 2 years. After that it's either upgrade or be left behind. And by the way, Windows XP does support multi core machines. Individual games may not, but the OS does. And most new releases will take advantage of multicore processors. Microsoft Flight Simulator X had a patch to make it multicore compatible. I suspect the Sims probably would take advantage of them as well. I'm a software engineer of some years experience, so you can be assured this is factual. Sorry if it isn't what you want to hear. It sounds like we won't need alienware computers.

Re: what about computer requirements? - Bexy 1239 - 24-03-2008 04:50 PM seriously guys... i hardly think the EA staff are stupid enough to make a game which will only run on very high-tech computers. they surely know that by making all their fans buy new computers for the game is waayyyy OTT, and less people would buy the game, which means less money for them and then eventually all sims games and future games will go byebye. however, if this is the case, it's their own problem and they need to get it sorted. i have a mac, with version 10.5.2, so hopefully that would be ok, if not then screw it, i'll stay with sims 2. not like sims 2 isn't bad anyway, i LOVE sims 2. it's so cute.but yeah, i honestly think it will work on low and high tech computers. EA staff have always made fab games, and i think that sims 3 will just be a much better version of sims 2 without the requirements of something costing over $5,000.
