my mum does not approve of it
i tell her that its okay
but she says that its not!

I've come across questions like these on Y!A and I was curious to read the answers, and according to the answerers, it's perfectly normal. {yes}

Of course it's normal.
Your mother probably just isn't comfortable with you doing it, but it is perfectly, 100% normal.
