Bye-bye bladder bar!

Bye-bye bladder bar!
The eight traditional motive bars governing bladder, hunger, and other needs are gone and have been condensed to a few (the most important being "stress versus fun"), but that doesn't mean you don't have to go to the bathroom. Instead, a Sim that needs to pee will suddenly have a "debuff" icon (dubbed a "moodlet" by The Sims 3 makers) appear over his portrait -- reducing that Sim's mood until it's addressed. Likewise, events such as a first kiss or a job promotion can trigger moodlet buffs with lasting results.

Plusses: More time to focus on careers, relationships, or being creative right from the get-go. Less time obsessively compulsively picking up dirty dishes to top off a comfort bar -- and then realizing it's time for bed. Also, less emphasis on the acquisition of objects simply because they make a certain bar fill up faster. Plus, players can now manipulate their Sims' environment directly -- breaking the fourth wall to pick up garbage for them, for example.

Potential Pitfalls: Oversimplified Sims: While Humble and his team say they're making a concerted effort to bring back the "game" aspect of The Sims, role-playing game players (read: the type of hardcore gamer most likely to get into the Sims series) crave stats and often don't appreciate when too much is hidden behind the curtain.

i like that motives don't control so much of their lives. it gets annoying when it seems like all you do is fulfill their needs.

Re: Bye-bye bladder bar!
Hmm... I'd have to agree with the hardcore gamers.. without the motive bars, I imagine it would be less of a challenge to run the sims lives... the motive bars, in my opinion, made their lives seem a bit more realistic and although they were kind of annoying, getting rid of them completely is in a strange way disappointing to me. I liked the way in freetime how we could simply slow the decay of the meters.
However, I do think the creators might be able to pull off a satisfactory approach to sims' lives and happiness in the Sims 3. I'm so excited ^__^

Re: Bye-bye bladder bar!
Though they helped, and famous in a way for the game, I'm happy they're gone.

I'd often get annoyed and frustrated that when I wanted to do something, I couldn't because of the needs.

[glow=limegreen,2,500]You know a good game of Monopoly has ended when a player gets sent back to jail, loses half the money, grabs the board and throws it to the wall, and all the pieces are thrown randomly at peoples heads.[/glow]

Re: Bye-bye bladder bar!
yes, yes,
motives do get in the way most times.

but then again...if that's your whole reasoning of playing the sims....to fufill motives...
then there would be no point,

You know what's really annoying...?When you leave the house to a lot and they have a need that the lot can't perform, like sleeping.
