Autonomy
Hello! I'm new here, and TS2 BBS is lagging, so I joined here to get my questions heard. Smile

Anyway, I was at work, thinking about the sims (like any of us do at work) and I was thinking about that situation we've all been in...

Picture this...

You have a fireplace, and if you're anything like me, you never use it. On a whim you decide, eh what the  hell, light that thing up. BUT...you forgot to install a fire alarm! Soon, the globe next to the fireplace (and, strangely, the fishtank) catch on fire, your sim is running around wildly and shouting, and your other sim is frantically dialing the fire department. And while you have to wait precious moments until the fire department arrives, you are stuck shouting and waving your arms frantically.

Now...picture this happening while you're playing a different house. Suddenly your other family dies off before you even know what happens.

While seamless neighborhoods and simultaneous Sim living seems nice, there are many aspects of it that seem not-so-nice. It seems like the autonomy will mess up a lot of my things, and it will be difficult to write stories. Luckily (I think) we can turn that off, right?

But just think about your sims dying or getting married or having kids (what if they don't know when to STOP having kids!) I don't know...it'll take me a while to get used to the autonomy, and I hope it isn't SO autonomous that it royally messes up some of my elaborate and delicate family structures!

I'm rambling...but I'm just wondering if anyone is thinking about the full possibilities of full autonomy and what that can mean for some of your families??

AHH! So many questions!!

Re: Autonomy
Well, since the sims are a lot smarter, I think all of these will be taken into consideration.

Like, with the babies thing, hopefully they'll think about their traits, and their family funds.

I'm a bit worried how townies will live in an unfurnished house though....

Re: Autonomy
At first I thought "no way can sims light themselves on fire or reproduce or cheat on each other while we're not there!"

but then I thought, "hey...what about the stories of the pre-mades like the Goths, doesn't Mortimer need to marry Bella?! and Crumplbottems...Doesn't one of them die in a fire!?"

{blink}

Maybe if you turn off aging or scale down the free will (overall some how?) they wont be able to make life altering choices?

Hopefully only the sim who set their house on fire will end up losing their house, I would be annoyed to find half of the town gone because of burned grilled cheese.  {glare}

now i can worry about more important things...like Ninjas.

Re: Autonomy
I think EA has all that in mind. And while they think destruction and lots of naughty sims and drama is fun, I'm sure they won't make the game too crazy for us. We all like having a family with issues once in a while, but, we control them. We make them cheat or die off or quit their jobs, etc. I don't think EA would make every sim in the valley able to lead their own lives and be crazy. At least I hope not.
Only one more month and we'll know for sure. ;D

My social life will cease to exist in June.

Re: Autonomy
It's a conundrum though.

Since if the neighbourhood changes and ages on its own really, then the families not being played would have to marry off and have thier own kids.

So they need to be able to make life altering decisions and have babies and die in fires.

now i can worry about more important things...like Ninjas.

Re: Autonomy
I think you'll be able to choose baby names and everything for your playable sims. It'll maybe just give you a popup, so even if you don't play your playable families, you'll be controlling them, to an extent.

I just hope that traits will hold a big part in their decisons. Like, they wont all do the same thing.
