Hmmm. The egg will count towards your "egg count" for a full day.

This is on purpose, to make the 5 hour wait to abandon caveborn eggs preferable to killing it.

No, you can't abandon dead eggs. You're stuck with it towards your count for a full day, and staying on your scroll for two weeks after that (though not counting towards anything)
