You use 'ghetto' as an example but I know a lot of people who have been raised in a perfect environment & still got pregnant. It's got nothing to do with how they were raised. Sometimes it is influentual on their decisions but it all comes down to the individuals choice.

yeah that is true...
I'm just saying that the influence around you can be powerful
but like I said in my earlier post, you can think for yourself

Well really you don't chose to get influenced. People influence you every day without your noticing. Its just a question of whether you conciously act upon that influence. But people can think for themselves. Its just that sometimes we don't think. Like if you walk to school every day along the same route you don't remember any of the journey because you're so used to travelling that way.

If the woman was raped...I dont know. It wasnt her fault, but why kill an innocent baby? Too sticky....
Why make a woman go through the pain and agony of having that child? The kid will be a constant reminder of what happened to her.[/quote]

I understand what your saying, but it isnt the childs fault either. I think (if the woman is able) she should still have the baby and then give it up. It's not her fault and it's not the kids fault either.

Yes, but that child is always going to be reminding that poor victim of what happened. And that child will live knowing what he/she is the result of, unless the mother chooses to lie to it, neither of which is a great way to grow up. If it's something is delicate as rape, a woman should be allowed to abort the pregnancy without guilt. She did NOT ask for that, or bring it on, in any way.

I do and don't blame the parents. Some parents teach some don't. It's the teenagers fault. My dad wasn't emotionally there for me,but do you see me doing drugs/alcohol? Nooo, because you've gotta be smart about your self.
& same goes for anyone who doesn't have a parent or anyone in their life. You gotta be smart.

Thanks. :]
It's true. Sorry to sound like Leslie from Bridge to Terabithia right now, but you're you, not your parents. Nor are you your environment. Just because you grow up in a broken family or unpleasant environment doesn't mean you can't grow up with a proper head on your shoulders...

breebree711 - I didn't say it was the kid's fault; of course it isn't the kid's fault. I agree with you on that. But if a woman became pregnant after being raped, she might want to abort the child. Think of the emotional trauma and suffering she already went through. After what happened to her, she may not want to go through pregnancy. As I said, she would be reminded even more of what was done to her. Well, I know I wouldn't want to. I'm pro-choice, not necessarily pro-abortion. If the woman chooses to keep the child, then so be it.

Thank you. This is the point I was trying to make, but you worded it better. =P

Re: Debate of the Week: Abortion (Yes or No?)
Same. I don't like the idea of abortion, I'd be sick if I thought it was 'good' to kill an unborn child. But, particularly depending on the situation [such as rape], women should be free to have a choice.

I have known two girls in my teen years who have got pregnant. One at 13, one at 16. And they both reacted the same way.
They LIKE the idea of being a mum, of having their own 'real-life baby' to care for, to love... they don't think clearly. They choose not to think of the negative consequences of keeping a child... I think this is why a lot of teenage girls choose to keep children... teenagers like to express love, they think about it a lot. Having their own child seems more like a fantasy than a nightmare.

It's almost like when you were younger [or even now, really]... when you really want a puppy/some other pet. Sounds like a bad analogy, but it is true. Little kids tend to want to get a puppy. But once they actually have it, it's the parents who are usually looking after it more often, right?

I have no idea how my friend who fairly recently had a child is doing. I do know that other girl has a four-year-old so now, and she gave the job of parenting to her parents. The novelty of being a mother soon wore off... I see her fairly frequently, and you'd never believe she has a child, I barely ever see her with him. They kid's probably growing up thinking she's his sister now...

Edit; I think I should add... some of you might remember about my old boyfriend with... um, 'issues', when he wanted a kid. Just want to say how easy it is to get led into the fairytale idea of having a family, no matter what age you are. Although I'm not as stupid as the other girls, but sometimes I see how they get lead astray by their boyfriends.

Remember that 13 year old boy who had a kid with his girlfriend last year?

The one that looked about 8? Yup. Turns out he wasn't the dad anyway.

Really? I'm not surprised. They probably didn't have s3x with eachother, I bet she just told him he was the father and he was too stupid to figure it out. Tongue
