Strange error when loading TS2

[lekothesim]

No solution was found when searching the technical support section, so maybe someone here knows the answer...

I installed the AL patch after installing BV, FT, and AL 2 weeks ago, and have been playing it for probably a total of 6-8 hours, no problems, including with custom stuff.

Today, I double clicked The Sims 2 Apartment Life icon on my PC desktop (WinXP), the TS2 Launcher appears, and I clicked "Play" . . .  the CD spins, and an error box pops up . . . says "The Sims 2" on the top bar with the X to close the window, then below it in the box is a red circle containing a white X, with a button "OK" under it.

I have tried removing all of the downloads, and even the last neighborhood that I used, in case that had a bad lot.

I tried playing under a different Windows user login, and TS2 loaded with no hitches!  Tried again in the first login, and I get the above error!

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening, what it means, and what to do to remedy it??

Maybe try it from your start menu? Try that and see what happens.

So, I still don't know where such a strange looking error "message" came from (a white X in a red circle), but I deleted the caches and now it works again, even with custom content.

And ty for your sugestion, phoebe91!
