Quite a while, and I admit by company policies it was either offer Medical Retirement (so he'd get better benefits/pay) or just lay him off.  I understand.  But it was still sad for him to have to leave the way he did.  He enjoyed his job.  Even if he hated getting up at 6:30 every morning xD
