[SOLVED] CTD on Create User! Please help!
Ok well I've tried literally everything I can find as so called 'fixes' to
stop this problem and NOTHING is working.

~Here's is my PC Specs.

M/b: ASUS M4N82 Deluxe nForce 980a SLI AM3

CPU: AMD Phenom II X3 720 True Triple Core 2.8GHz

RAM: 4GB (2x2) Vitesta DDR2 800MHz

Graphics: Nvidia GEForce GTX 260

PSU: BFG 800w ES-800 Quad 12v w/ 2.91 SLI support

Cooling: x6 1200rpm fans.

O/S: Windows 7 Professional

DirectX: 11

HDD Capacity: x2 Samsung SATA HDDs - 1.5TB & 1TB

I completely wiped The Sims 3 from my system, did a registry cleanup etc etc.
and reinstalled the base game ONLY without adding a single CC file. Installed
via default directory.

I've tried an alternate directory on a differtent HDD. Didn't help.

I've tried the DEP tip, didn't help.

I completely wiped my graphics driver clean off of the system and I've
updated the graphics driver. Didn't help.

I've looked in in 'Virtual Store' folder. It's empty.

I've deleted the temp cache files. Didn't help.

I've patched the game to 1.33. Didn't help.

I have dot net framework 4 installed.

I've tried running as admin, tried compatbility mode (XP SP3 AND XP SP2)
Still didn't help.

You name it I've tried it.

The Crash Log Analyzer keeps telling me its a graphics issue but my card and
the drivers are FINE. I've tested it with Fallout 3 modded like crazy and THAT
game is far more tempermental with graphics issues and it's running perfectly on
a 1360x768 resolution.

The resolution is that high because my PC is hooked up via hd to my Sony
Bravia. Don't try telling me that's the issue either please, The game 'Create a
Sim' menu was loading fine 3 days ago.

Everything else seems to be fine I think, I've moved into a lot with no
issues but I haven't tried playing yet because I WANT MY OWN SIM OFCOURSE.

Please, please help. I'm totally defeated. This thing just won't give it
up!

(It is a full retail copy of the game and is running fine on my laptop when I
tested it, the laptop has far lower specs too).

Many thanks

RE: CTD on Create User! Please help!
First of all, for the benefit of anyone wondering what he/she's problem is, the game is crashing to desktop (for those who didn't know what CTD meant!)

Here's my guess: the game was patched back in 15th March 2012 (yet again) and some people have started to have problems since then, not always immediately but sometimes only after downloading the more recent content from the EA Store.

My suggestion is reinstall the game (and only the games), patch it right up to date, and then install the latest version of Twallan's Overwatch mode (which is simply dropping it into your mods\packages folder and see how things are then. Over the last year and a half a lot of people are finding they can ONLY run their games with the latest Twallan Overwatch installed, as it stops a lot of the errors from EA's crap coding.

Try it for a while with that (about an hour should do), and if it runs fine then you can start adding back your custom content, EA store content, etc.

Let us know how you get on.

RE: CTD on Create User! Please help!
Fantastic,
I think I do actually have that Overwatch downloaded, I guess I was foolish to assume EA knew what they were doing and think I should run the game Vanilla first to test everything went ok, silly me eh? lol.
Thanks alot for your reply. I'll get back to you when I've tried your suggestion.

RE: CTD on Create User! Please help!
Well I've tried reinstalling drivers, didnt work.
Rolled back drivers, didn't work.
Wiped those drivers clean, tried with default automatic installed drivers, didn't work.
The error keeps saying fault module name d3d9.dll but I cant install directx 9 because I have 11. Some people have said you can (those people are quite clearly massive retards who should stay off of the internet) others say to reinstall directx 11 which I can't do.
Others suggested running directx web installer, that just reminds me I have the latest directx11, so awesome advice there too.
One suggested manually copying over the d3d9.dll itself to the system32 folder, well I can't access it, even when I try and turn on admin permissions DESPITE THE FACT THAT IM ALREADY THE GOD DAMNED ADMIN, nothing.
I tried it using the cmd prompt command line, didnt do s**t.
Quite simply, I convinced that nothing anyone tells me to do is going to work. I've spent 2 days trying to fix this pathetic funking problem that wasn't occuring the very 1st time i ran installed the game, which was 3 days ago and I've done nothing and changed nothing that should be affecting this now.
All the reinstalls, patch updating, mod fix installing etc etc etc just will not solve this problem.
So if anyone here can solve it, short of telling me to contact EA or reinstalling windows, well then quite frankly you're an absolute genius.

RE: CTD on Create User! Please help!
d3d9.dll error?

Hmmm, did you reinstall the drivers, THEN do the registry clean?

Something else I was wondering - have you recently overclocked your graphics card. For if there's one thing the game really sucks on, it's interacting with graphics cards (hence all the lovely overheating the game does!)

Oh, and don't reinstall Windows - that's not going to help!

RE: CTD on Create User! Please help!
Yeah I'm not reinstalling Windows 7 to then find it happens again. I know that's overkill because other than this error EVERYTHING and every game runs perfectly on my system. It's as clean as possibly can be short of a full wipe.
MY method of uninstalling and reinstalling drivers was as follows:
- Uninstalled Physx via add/remove programs
- Uninstalled Nvidia update via add/remove programs
- Uninstalled 3d Drivers via add/remove programs
- Uninstalled Graphics drivers via add/remove programs
- Ran Driver Sweeper and cleaned Graphics and Physx registry keys.
- Restarted in safe mode.
- Executed nVidia setup via run as admin.
- Installed drivers using custom install option and checked box for 'Perform clean installation.'

To my knowledge that's about as clean an uninstall and reinstall of drivers as possible no?

RE: CTD on Create User! Please help!
Ok.... so.... this is the part where I hang my head in shame and tuck my tail between my legs. Lol.....
BECAUSE IT WORKED!!!!!
I'm half elated that I've solved the problem (Ironically not because I'm so desperate to play the game but more so because it's become and obsession, I HATE not being able to do anything on my PC that I KNOW I should be able to do! Yes, I'm anal that way, lol.)
Ok so, I know you're dying to know what it was, lol, ok maybe not.
I suddenly realised that I'd installed an app for triple buffering to help with screen tearing and vsync on Fallout 3.... well remember the issue with sims w3 was related to D3D9.dll? wellll the program is callllllled....
D3DOVERRIDER.....
Yes I know..... DOH!
It hadn't even occured to me. All these long winded workarounds I'd been trying and it was this tiny little app running quietly in the background.
DAMN YOU D3DOVERRIDER!!!!!
Thank you Waffen, for your help and tips trying to figure this out with me. I really appreciate it. Smile
and finally.... as the gameshow says.... right now I feel I should say... I am NOT smarter than a 10 year old/5th grader. Lol.
