You could start a new neighbourhood from the beginning, you could try a different theme.
Build different styles of houses.

Great ideas, everyone
Other than those, sometimes it works to take a quick break from the game altogether. Soon you'll miss it - I promise  You could also download CC and such...usually those can spice up the game to the point where it's fun to play again. Hope this helped

i love it how when you gt bored with the sims, you find a way to get yourself re-addicted rather than finding something else to do.
