I just thought of something cool like maybe the neighbor's of your sims or people walking near by would call 911 if your house was on fire or being robbed instead of it only depending on your sim or the alarms
not to mention I think that part of the houses like the walls and roof should be able to be destroyed by fire and burglars should have to break through your door or window or at least look like they are
as well as your own sims being in the room should scare burglars away
